2 Advantages of Having a Clay Roof

Posted on 2022-01-192022-01-19 By Rebecca B. Levy

Clay tiles have certain aesthetics associated with them. These kinds of materials are often popular in hot regions such as areas in deserts or tropics. Perhaps you might also think of buildings that exist in the Mediterranean areas of Europe like Spain or Italy. There’s more to these shingles than just their looks, however. Adding them to your home can give you many benefits. Below you can find two of them.

Durability

Clay is a very strong material. For proof, you can look at the shingles that still don the roofs of old buildings that were built in the time of ancient Greece and Italy. Clay has an estimated lifespan of 50 years at the minimum. This is likely due to it being resistant to a lot of elements such as flames and high winds. It also can withstand heavy impacts from weather debris such as hail and falling branches. Also, unlike some other materials, there is no need for regular maintenance. Clay tiles only need to be repaired if they crack.

Eco-Friendly

As clay is made from earth, there is no need to worry about the impact that it will have on the environment once it degrades. Along with this, when a house with a clay roof is destroyed, the tiles can be broken down and moistened to become viable for new tiles. There’s also the matter that tiles with certain shapes can force heat away from houses. This allows those living inside those houses to have a cooler environment. So consider asking about clay tiles when you are looking for roofing companies in Daytona Beach.

If clay tiles just don’t work with your house’s area or aesthetics, it’s understandable why you might not want them. However, there’s no need to be afraid of using them if they do match your home’s area and overall aesthetic.
