Tips to brighten up your home on dark and gloomy winter days

Posted on 2020-12-302021-04-06 By WebEditor

The days of winter are short and dark most of the time as the sun is seen rarely. The cold winter makes people stay inside their houses, and the gloomy weather makes you feel downright miserable. The low light and the shabby interiors make you feel gloomier, but if you know a few tips and tricks to lighten up your house, you would be feeling fresh and cheery even in the dreary days of winter.

Wondering how you could do that? A few things to manage at your home and ta-da.

  • Remove the window screens.

The first thing you will do is take off the window screens and leave the windows wide open. These window screens serve well for blocking heat and sunlight in summer and are readily available at Belleville windows replacement contractors. Removing them would bring more light to the house, and the natural daylight makes your home look cheerful, and you will feel fresh.

  • Choose light-colored slipcovers

Slipcovers are also very important when it comes to the brightening up of your house. If you have dark-colored slipcovers, they will give a dull and gloomy look to the house. Try investing some money in purchasing good and light-colored slipcovers such as ivory or beige. You will be delighted with the results.

  • Make your floors shine.

If you have got hardwood floors, now is the time to let them shine at their best, and for that, you will have to remove all the rugs and runners that are having the adverse effect. The shiny floors tend to reflect the light that falls upon them so that you can have the apt amount of light.

  • Choose light bulbs wisely.

There are many types of light bulbs, and there is a wide variety of their colors. So the best practice is to choose the color of the light carefully. Some colors are suitable for some areas while others light up better in some other part of the house. So choose wisely from the warm light, cool light, and daylight. You know the demands of your house better, or asking the light seller can also help you select the correct color of light.

  • Change the color of your curtains.

The color of the curtains also affects the mood of the house. If you have dark-colored drapery, your house will give a dark and gloomy look to your house. On the other hand, if you choose light-colored curtains, the space with naturally brighten up, and you would feel comfortable about it.

  • Try playing up with mirrors.

Since the mirrors reflect the light, they tend to add brightness and space to the place where they are added, so you could use some mirrors and put them as home décor and add more brightness to your house.

We hope you will find these tips helpful, and with a very little investment, you can turn a gloomy dark winter house into a cozy warm, and bright one.
