Tips for Sprucing Up A Room with Accent Walls

Posted on 2021-03-16 By WebEditor

Are you getting tired of your house interiors? Do you feel like changing it up a bit to freshen the vibes of the room? If you want to achieve a brand new vibe for your place but without causing damage to your wallets, consider putting up an accent wall.

Functional Accent

First things first: what exactly is an accent wall? As its name suggests, its purpose is to accentuate a particular area of the room. Instead of using decorations and accessories, however, it’s the wall itself that becomes the focal point of the design.

To achieve this, the accent wall must feature a different shade, color, or design from the rest of the walls in the room. It could even make use of a completely different material. The whole point of it is for this specific wall to stand out from the rest.

Here are things to keep in mind when planning to refresh your interiors with a brand new accent wall:

Location, Location, Location

As with real estate property, choosing where to put the accent wall is going to be important in achieving the effect you want. An accent wall should usually benefit a room without any distinct architectural features best.

You could also choose one that’s right beside or close to a window, and then brighten up the accent wall to lighten an otherwise dark room. Conversely, however, be careful that you don’t overwhelm the room with too much brightness.

Highlight, Contrast, Elevate

How loud you want the accent wall to be is up to you. As mentioned earlier, the point is to make it pop to give better character to the room. Whether it is to highlight, contrast, or elevate the vibe of the room, you should take into consideration the materials you use.

Paint is the easiest and most convenient choice to use for the accent wall. Wallpapers are also highly common and relatively easy to apply. Some would even incorporate other materials altogether, like metallic sheets or even hardwood material. These, however, would require the installation of professionals like Soen Hardwood Denver.

Think Out of the Box

Sure, it’s just a wall you’re dealing with, but it doesn’t mean you can’t be creative in your approach. It’s an accent wall, yes, but have you ever considered maybe using the ceiling for this? It’s being done as it is already, anyway, with people using a sharply contrasting shade of paint on their ceilings to differentiate it from the rest of the room. Combine that with a unique material, such as hardwood, and you’ve got an accent wall that won’t let you down.

There are plenty of ways to have fun coming up with an accent wall. Get a good feel of what you want to incorporate in your refreshed design, so you can enjoy a not-so-brand-new room.
